Comparing THC-O & HHC

With THC-O and HHC gaining attention and becoming increasingly available, we want to ensure that anyone visiting our website, online store, or brick-and-mortar locations has the knowledge they need to serve themselves better. Therefore, this post will explain THC-O and HHC and compare the two. Looking back on our past blog posts, you will notice we like to review the products we sell from an informative point of view. People shop at Deep Six for endless reasons spanning from the need for better sleep to a perfect way to spend their days off.

Which is better THC-O or HHC?

That is a trick question if I’ve ever seen one. I’m not sure I would blindly recommend one over the other. As it was when Delta-8 THC hit the industry, different people enjoy different strains, strengths, and flavors. For some, Delta-8 was not their cup of tea. We know this will be the case with THC-O and HHC, but all the same, that is a decision to be made by oneself.

What Is THC-O?

Tetrahydrocannabinol-o-acetate – or better referred to as THC-O (pronounced “THC oh”) comes from intensively- cultivated raw, CBD-rich hemp. CBD is first extracted by separating flowers and leaves from stems Once removed, that CBD is converted to Delta-8 or Delta-9. From there, acetic anhydride is added to the Delta-8.

Research places THC-O anywhere from 3 to 5 times more potent than their trendy cousins, Delta-8 THC and Delta-9 THC. It is also sometimes referred to as “the psychedelic cannabinoid,” as some report borderline hallucinatory effects depending on the method of usage and dosage.

Though producing these cannabinoids can be a bit involved, it’s certainly worthwhile to do. We have already mentioned some reasons, but we will dive more into its benefits as we continue.

What Is HHC?

HHC stands for hexahydrocannabinol. HHC is a hydrogenated form of THC. Just like THC-O, this cannabinoid is also synthetically derived from hemp. Using a process called hydrogenation, HHC is created in a very similar way to margarine. Hydrogen atoms are added to THC to stabilize it by utilizing a catalyst such as nickel or palladium and introducing high pressures. However, unlike THC-O, and despite this manufacturing process, HHC is found naturally in hemp but in trace amounts. This hydrogenation process allows a usable quantity of concentrated HHC to be extracted.

Why go to the trouble, you may be asking? The answer is simple. Breaking down the chemical structure of THC and replacing it with hydrogen preserves the potency and favored effects of the THC. This also means HHC will not lose strength quickly when exposed to the outside world.

One could say the HHC is your cannabinoid go-to when the zombie apocalypse finally happens or if another devasting pandemic ever strikes us.

THC-O Vs. HHC: Key Differences

As I mentioned above, THC-O is said to be 3-5 times more potent than Delta-8 / Delta-9. HHC, on the other hand, is usually ranked somewhere between D8 and D9.

HHC is reported to produce a psychoactive feeling comparable to that of THC. This effect profile includes feelings of euphoria and increased appetite and a slight increase in heart rate for short periods. Also, like THC, it may alter your visual and auditory perceptions. Unfortunately, not much study has been done on HHC regarding medicine, although structurally, it is very close to THC. I also found it interesting that in a study done on rats, HHC was found to have incredible painkilling abilities.

THC-O can also carry the nickname “the spiritual cannabinoid.” This is because sources such as Leafly report THC-O can cause a similar experience to small doses of LSD. A strong feeling of euphoria and intensified sensory perception is what THC-O can offer the user, according to similar sources. Not to fear, though, THC-O causing a “bad trip” is not something researchers say you need to worry about.

Forms of THC-O and HHC

THC-O and HHC can be found and consumed in all the standard ways CBD and Delta-8/Delta-9 are. Although, produces of these cannabinoids mostly stick to edibles, bud, and vape. Edibles are usually an all-time favorite, whether CBD, D8/D9, THC-O, or HHC. Vapes and smokable bud follow closely behind, though.

Edibles can offer obvious benefits, such as only needing to eat one dose and go on about your day with all the benefits of that cannabinoid. Vapes and bud don’t offer this same convenient delivery method. Still, THC-O and HHC are not something that requires many hits to take their effect. A couple of puffs from a disposable vape, and most are usually good to go. Others may choose to smoke a pre-roll with some friends or use one of their favorite smoking devices.
