Image of CBD bud and tinctureI’d like to clear up some of the social stigma concerning the purchase and use of cannabidiol (CBD) oil and other CBD & hemp products. Consumers have been subject to a lot of confusion about the truth of CBD use. In this blog we’ll explore some of the facts and fictions about hemp-derived CBD.

We’ll start with the big one – the idea that CBD oil provides a high or an intoxicated altered state. The fact is this: CBD is a cannabinoid and interacts with our endocannabinoid system. However, it does not provide a “high” in the same way that THC does. It calms us, relaxes us, and eases our pain. It lacks the intoxicating effects of THC. While this lack of a high is a deal-breaker for some users, there are countless individuals who seek it out for that same reason.

Let’s clear up some more confusion about CBD oil and hemp-derived products…

FICTION – CBD is illegal.

FACT – Many people tend to avoid purchasing CBD oil and hemp products because they think that they areimage of hemp plant and CBD molecule illegal. This is not the case. It’s a common misconception due to the fact that cannabidiol is found in hemp and marijuana. True, both are members of the Cannabis Sativa family of plants. The difference between these sources is that CBD from hemp is not an illegal psychoactive substance. Make sure that your CBD is extracted from hemp with less than 0.3% dry weight THC. If it is, then it’s perfectly legal for purchase and consumption.

FICTION – CBD & hemp require a prescription.

FACT – CBD products of all kinds, including edibles, oil, flower, cream and lotion can be purchased legally and online without the need of a prescription. If you are suffering from anxiety, chronic pain, or high stress, then CBD can offer prescription-free relief. You should always consult with your primary care doctor if you intend to supplement or replace prescribed treatments with these products.

FICTION – CBD is “snake oil.” It has no effect.

FACT – CBD is proven to have a positive effect upon a variety of conditions and can help to manage your physical and mental well-being. Research shows that CBD benefits include acting as an anti-inflammatory, an anticonvulsant, it has been used to treat vomiting and nausea, as well as anxiety and other mood disorders.

I hope this clears up some of your concerns over using or starting to use CBD. We all have plenty more to learn about CBD and the benefits that it provides. The news so far points to it being a natural alternative that can be consumed daily with no side effects. Until next time.
